the journey

Owner and Floral Designer at Yard to Vase

I always rejected the notion that local somehow has to be “limited”

My whole life I thought I was invincible. Until I wasn’t.

In the midst of a complete burnout from a corporate career, a severe back injury, and slow discovery of deeply buried childhood trauma, a cut flower garden started to emerge. I poured all my energy (or the lack of it?) into creating a space where I could breathe, channel all the pain and anxiety, and be myself.

'“My journey from ‘yard to vase’ wasn’t pretty… What came of it, however, is”

the yard

Backyard garden with colorful flowers, including red, pink, orange, white, and purple blooms, in front of a modern house with a small greenhouse.

The seeds, the flowers, the bouquets - a powerhouse of healing...

While battling life’s ups and downs, out went a ton of weeds and many piles of compost and organic amendments were mixed in with heavy clay.

By the spring, the yard exploded into a stunning pollinator oasis.

The flowers grew and bloomed while I cut and designed many (many!) bouquets that filled the house, and soon our neighbors’ and friends’ houses, too. I kept adding more varieties, more space, and made more bouquets than I ever knew what to do with.

I heard many stories of how the arrangements I created for friends, neighbors, and their loved ones made them feel, how uplifting, empowering, and healing, was their experience. Many who visited the garden or received a bouquet from me (lovingly) called me crazy for not working as a floral designer.

And that’s when it clicked. What I excel at as a leadership coach in my corporate career is making people feel empowered and connected with their strengths and authentic selves, and helping them achieve their goals.

Flowers evoke deep emotions - there is no way around it. They help us connect with who we truly are. The giver, the recipient, and - at least in my case -, the designer.

In Yard to Vase, my own two strengths and talents meet: coaching and floral design. Today, I serve my clients who simply love flowers in their lives, or are in need of knowledge and skills to become the best version of themselves.
